Joined by physicist and educator Dr. Robert Davies, the quartet co-created The Crossroads Project: Rising Tide to address pressing issues of global sustainability. Rising Tide is an evocative performance that combines music, information, and imagery, merging intellectual with visceral to take audiences from understanding to action.
This performance features a string quartet written for the project by composer Laura Kaminsky, along with original works by painter Rebecca Allan and internationally recognized environmental photographer Garth Lenz.
The second chapter of the Crossroads Project, Emergence, features a score by Libby Larsen, video projections, and a Shakespeare-inspired soliloquy written by Robert Davies. Both Rising Tide and Emergence have been released on the Fry Street Quartet's latest album, The Crossroads Project.
The FSQ has been expanding the role of the arts in society with groundbreaking new works and collaborations. The Crossroads Project is an ongoing partnership with physicist and educator Dr. Robert Davies with two original multi-disciplinary performance pieces to date, Rising Tide and Emergence, which are meditations on global sustainability. Crossroads productions have been staged more than 25 times in 3 countries, and have involved visual artists, filmmakers, actors, and composers.
Beyond the Crossroads Project, the quartet continues to champion voices of contemporary composers in traditional concert settings with commissioned new works by Thomas McFaul, Laura Kaminsky, Michael Ellison, Clarice Assad, and Libby Larsen.
